Tile has long been one of the most popular flooring materials for bathrooms, kitchens, and more. This is because it is both durable and versatile--you can find tiles in just about any color or style.
However, if you want to keep your tile looking great and lasting for years, you're going to have to make sure that you're maintaining it properly. Both tile and the grout that holds it in place require specialized care if you want them to remain in good shape.
Today, we're going to take a look at cleaning tile floors and grout the right way.
Read on to learn everything you need to know to keep your tile and grout clean without causing accidental damage.
If you're going to clean your tile floors and grout on your own, we recommend using a natural cleaning solution rather than something harsh like bleach. However, it's important to keep in mind that certain natural solutions and chemicals will produce toxic fumes when mixed, meaning that even with natural cleaners, you need to take precautions.
To begin, sweep or vacuum up any debris. Then, grab either a rag or chamois mop to get scrubbing. If possible, avoid using a sponge, which tends to push dirty water into your grout.
If you have porcelain or ceramic tile, you can mix up a cleaning solution using 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 gallons of hot water, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 tablespoon dish detergent. Then, use your rag or mop to wipe down your tile, giving some extra elbow grease to areas that are stained or greasy.
If your tiles are not made of porcelain or ceramic, you may need to use specialized cleaning materials. Some tiles, such as slate, do not react well to the acid in vinegar.
To clean grout, make a paste using baking soda and hot water. Apply the paste to your grout using a toothbrush and allow it to sit for several hours (or overnight, for exceptionally dirty grout). Then, using a stiff nylon brush and clean water, scrub the baking soda off of the grout and allow it to dry.
Sometimes, a good cleaning requires professional help. Plus, older grout may need to be resealed, an important part of the tile and grout maintenance process. We're here to help with any professional cleaning and sealing you need for the tile floors and grout in your home.
Tile floors are some of the most popular for home use due to the durability and versatility of tile today. However, you'll need to stay on top of cleaning tile floors and grout if you want to keep your tile floors looking and feeling brand new.
